Generosity and community spirit came together recently when the Chrusz/Savitsky Family Fund at the Thunder Bay Community Foundation provided a grant to the Dew Drop Inn for a new convection oven in their kitchen – an essential upgrade that they are very much looking forward to, for both staff and the hundreds of people who come to them each day.
Bigger Opportunities Ahead: Community Foundation Expands 2026 Student Bursaries
Originally established in the early 2000s as the Harbour Youth Services Bursary, the award was created to honour the legacy of the late Justice Ronald B. Lester, a respected advocate for youth justice. During the first decade of the program, the bursary was administered by his wife, Susan Lester, alongside Justice Lester’s close friends and colleagues. In 2013, the Fund was formally entrusted to the Thunder Bay Community Foundation to ensure its long-term sustainability.

For decades, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation has worked to ease that burden. Through its annual Student Awards, the Foundation provides meaningful financial support to eligible students across the District of Thunder Bay. In 2026, more than $200,000 will be available to graduating high school and post-secondary students ensuring that finances do not stand in the way of their potential.
