Step 1 - Desire
The first step to starting a fund is realizing you have a desire to give back to your community, create a lasting legacy for you and your family and/or honour a loved one. Whether you wish to leave a charitable gift in your will or simply want to give a cash donation to a charity of your choice, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation can help guide you through the giving process with ease.
Step 2 – Research
The second step is to research. Finding out the kind of fund you want to create and the cause you want to support are very important steps in creating a fund. The kind of fund you want to create dictates the support a specific charity or cause may receive.
Step 3 – Advise
The third step is the seek advised from both the Thunder Bay Community Foundation and the professional advisors - financial planners, lawyers, accountants, and others - together we can help you fulfill your financial, family and charitable goals.
Step 4 – Establish
The final step is to establish your fund. A contract is created and reviewed with yourself and whomever you deem necessary. Once you are satisfied, the contract is signed and the fund is established once the initial gift is given.
